If you’re feeling the need to escape any extended family or friend dynamics this Thanksgiving, you can’t get much further than the pressure ridges of Antarctica. These extraordinary, Antoni Gaudi-esque landscapes form along the rim of the continent when the annual sea ice (approximately 8-10 feet deep) collides with the fixed ice shelf (closer to around 200 feet deep). No turkey, NFL football, or great-aunt green jello salads here, just heart-stopping turquoise visions, which I got to enjoy on a guided tour with the awesome biologists of Todgham lab
